MEET ANGELINE WIDMER

Angelina Widmer, a graduate of the UIC School of Public Health, is a past recipient of the Alan W. Donaldson Memorial Award for academic excellence, qualities of leadership and community service.

Angelina’s interest in public health is fueled by her passion for social justice issues and her work is driven by the belief that she can improve the well-being of populations and communities by employing core values and principles. Receiving the award encouraged her to continue her work and pursuing an MBA degree also provided her with additional expertise in applying business concepts to resource management in the public and not-for-profit health sectors.

THE ALAN W. DONALDSON MEMORIAL AWARD

The award, which is a memorial to Alan W. Donaldson, ScD, a founding father of the School and its first Associate Dean, is the most prestigious award granted by the UIC School of Public Health and is made to one graduating student. The honor includes a monetary award and is funded by the Alan W. Donaldson Endowment Fund, which also helps students defray travel costs related to their professional development and academic training.

WHAT SHE SAYS

In her words, “The Alan W. Donaldson Memorial Award (and similar awards) provides its recipients with recognition for outstanding work and volunteerism undertaken on behalf of underserved communities. Monetary assistance with such awards allows recipients to continue valuable service through public health initiatives within these communities.
