Gifts in Action -
Frank Bender
MEET THE BENDERS
Alumnus Frank Bender and his wife, Bette, have established the Frank C. and Bette J. Bender Fund at the UIC College of Medicine.
WHY THEY GAVE
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked in the field of medicine,” Bender says. “I hope that these scholarships will enable those who receive them to get a great education.”
HOW THEY GAVE
The Benders decided to make this gift through a charitable gift annuity. This kind of planned gift makes it easy for donors like Bender to leave a bequest to their alma mater. “The charitable gift annuity is very popular due to its simplicity and effectiveness in providing immediate income-tax deductions with a high level of tax-advantaged income,” says Chuck Van Hecke, deputy associate chancellor for development.
WHAT FRANK BENDER SAYS
In addition to the generous financial support that the Benders are giving to students, they also have some advice for them. “Always remember to do what you want to,” Bender says. “I feel that I have done pretty much everything I wanted. I was extremely blessed to be where I was and do what I did.”
