Gifts in Action - 3M Foundation

MEET THE 3M FOUNDATION

3M Foundation, the charitable arm of 3M, is a diversified technology company with their global headquarters in St. Paul, MN. The Foundation partners with colleges and universities to create academic programs that make a difference in an increasingly complex and technical world. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is one of 3M’s selected academic partners.

HOW THEY GAVE

The Foundation presented a significant gift to the School of Chemical Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Peter Grasse, 3M Co-Leader of the Illinois University Relations team and a 1983 Illinois Ph.D., delivered the check from 3M: “I am proud to be a part of 3M supporting the state-of- the-art renovation of the labs that were old when I taught in them in the late 1970s,” says Grasse.

The gift is an important contribution to the renovation of the organic teaching laboratory. The laboratory will provide a state-of-the-art environment for teaching students essential skills in organic chemistry and is used by close to one thousand students every year from Chemistry, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Life Sciences, etc.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

“The 3M Foundation’s gift to renovate the Sophomore Chemical Sciences Lab will help ensure students are working in a safe environment with the latest equipment to accelerate learning and engagement in this career field. We are pleased to support the University's efforts,” says Barbara Kaufmann, Manager of Education Contributions at 3M Foundation.
