Gifts in Action -
Dr. Tamer Basar
MEET DR. BASAR
Dr. Tamer Basar is grateful for having received the Fredric G. and Elizabeth H. Nearing Professorship. This gift enabled Basar to hire undergraduate students to participate in his research activities and to work alongside Ph.D. students. Basar used funds from this endowment to assist his graduate students in attending conferences so they could benefit from meeting and speaking with leading researchers in their fields. Basar was also able to use funds from this gift as “seed money” to initiate research projects until permanent funding could be secured. Basar and his student’s research results have been published in scientific journals, and have influenced the research of others worldwide. A few of his research interests include smart icing systems for aircrafts, flow control on communication networks, control over wireless and wired networks, and mobile computing.
THE FREDERIC G. AND ELIZABETH H. NEARING ENDOWED PROFESSORSHIP
The Fredric G. and Elizabeth H. Nearing Endowed Professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering was created to generate knowledge and research for electrical and computer engineering.
WHAT HE SAYS
When he received the gift, Basar said, “We indeed have a win-win situation here. In today’s economic environment, investing in an academic institution and its people is an investment which will deliver the best return. I was touched by the level of their (Fred and Betty Nearing) enthusiasm in helping in various ways to the University.”
