Gifts in Action - Dr. John Halvorsen

MEET DR. JOHN HALVORSEN

Dr. John Halvorsen is working on developing a standardized teaching tool, primary care training programs, for family and community physicians. This gift stabilized the position of the Family and Community Practice within the medical school. “It has been essential in ensuring that the department and support will be there,” said Halvorsen. Most importantly, this endowment supported the development of a practice-based research network linking all clinical faculty to a large research laboratory of approximately 150 doctors.

Funds from this gift were also used to assist in developing faculty skills and motivating staff to do develop more research and activities. Finally, this gift has allowed them to finish ongoing research on women’s sports injuries.

WHAT HE SAYS

“Funds from this gift supported a development project, which produced a level of scholarship and established goals for faculty productivity that are generally not strongly supported at community-based campuses,” said Halvorsen.
